Factory Supply Guaiacol Food Grade Spices Flavor Additive 99% Purity Natural Plant Extract CAS 90-05-1 Guaiacol
Guaiacol (or guaiacol, named after the Guaiacol tree native to Latin America) is a natural organic compound with the formula C6H4(OH)(OCH3). This colorless aromatic oil-like compound is the main component of creosote, which can be prepared from guaiacum resin, etc. The common guaiacol takes on a dark color when exposed to air or light. Guaiacol is present in the smoke produced when wood is burned due to the breakdown of lignin. Many foods, such as roasted coffee beans, have a distinctive odor due to the presence of guaiacol. The special flavor of smoked food is mainly due to the effect of guaiacol and syringol.

1). Used in medicine, dyes and flavor intermediates.
2). Mainly used in the preparation of coffee, vanilla, smoke and tobacco and other types of flavors.
3). Used in the synthesis of dyes, also used as analytical reagents.
4). A phenolic compound that acts as a scavenger for superoxide radicals.
Guaiacol is widely used in industry. Guaiacol is commonly used to produce flavors such as eugenol, vanillin and artificial musk. Guaiacol also has numerous medical applications. It is used in the synthesis of guaiacol (potassium guaiacol sulfonate), as a local anesthetic or preservative, as an expectorant and in the treatment of indigestion. Because of its reducing properties, it is often used as an antioxidant in small amounts in cosmetics and is often used together with synergists and metal ion chelators. Guaiacol is also used as a dye because it produces a dark color when reacted with oxygen. Guaiacol is also used as a raw material for organic synthesis and a reference material for analysis and determination.
